Decisions like these, because they are based on capricious-seeming subtleties in the rules, often evoke consternation among fans and the media, especially when other cases that seem equally innocent are decided more harshly. Last week at the Irish Open, for example, two pros were disqualified for infractions that they, too, obviously did not intend.
