"That's what Bobby Jones did with the Masters, and there's no reason why we can't do something that's as successful if not more successful than what he did at Augusta."
/Jim Owczarzki talks to Jerry Rich of Rich Harvest Farms fame who wants an LPGA event, just not a major.
One possibility could have been the LPGA Championship, one of the game's four major championships and one which Wahn has said he wants to find a permanent home for.
While Rich acknowledged the championship is available, it's not the right one for this situation.
"I think with Chicago, and the things we want to do, and to entice the right title sponsor, we're going to have to go one step above that — that kind of special," Rich said. "That's where we're at right now."
What could be more special than a major?
Something bigger than the Masters!
Rich said he expects it to be the only one on the tour where the world's top amateurs will be invited, at least seven or eight, and there will be "very unique qualifications" in order to qualify for the event.
"Those are the kind of great things we're working on, we're just not trying to bring another tournament to the Chicagoland area," Rich said. "We want to do more than that. That's what Bobby Jones did with the Masters, and there's no reason why we can't do something that's as successful if not more successful than what he did at Augusta. If you put your sights high, you might as well put them very high."
Or, you're just high.
