Lawrie On Skipping The U.S. Open: "The number of people who have since told me I missed nothing has been reassuring."

You may recall that former Open Champion Paul Lawrie--currently a 25/1 choice for the Scottish Open and 40/1 for the Open Championship--skipped the U.S. Open to concentrate on collecting Ryder Cup points and because the USGA style of setup does not suit his game. So it was interesting to read this comment in John Huggan's Scotland On Sunday column that would seem to suggest chatter about the setup amongst the players and caddies was not positive.

“Having said that, from what I did see it looked like the sort of course I wouldn’t have enjoyed playing. I’ve never been a fan of that style of golf. I could have gone over there and destroyed all the confidence I have built up over the last year or so. So, although I take no pleasure from the fact that I made the right decision not to go, I’m glad I did what I did.”
