Jack On Guan: "Can you imagine giving a 14-year-old kid a penalty for slow play?''
/Rusty Miller reports on Jack Nicklaus's feelings about the Woods Masters ruling (right call) and the Tianlang Guan slow play penalty (not so right).
Nicklaus was speaking at a Nationwide event leading up to the Memorial:
''He's in the eighth grade! The eighth grade and he's playing in the Masters!'' Nicklaus said, smiling. ''And he gets a penalty? Can you imagine giving a 14-year-old kid a penalty for slow play?''
He added, ''There's hundreds of guys who are much slower probably than (he was) and they figure out a way to get away with it.''
Nick Masuda reports on Nicklaus' comments to the Sage Valley Junior Invitational, which Golfweek is covering like it's the Masters. Interesting take on the Woods drop, which many have said would have prompted Nicklaus to WD. Not so fast...
"If Tiger had withdrawn, he would have been putting himself above the rules of the game," said Nicklaus.
And with another year going by with no fifth green jacket for Woods, is he running out of time to catch Nicklaus?
"He is plenty young enough, but will he? I don't know.
"I still think Tiger will break my record,” Nicklaus continued. “If I said anything different, there would be headlines in the newspaper tomorrow.”
