Punters Take Note: Tiger Will Be "Good Enough" For The Open
/Because of his ability to play the wind and for general karma reasons related to his last visit to Muirfield, I've thought The Open was Tiger's best chance at a major this year but his "good enough" comments related to his elbow should have the punters bumping up his odds a bit.
Mark Lamport-Stokes reports:
Asked whether the elbow would be fully healed in time for the July 18-21 British Open at Muirfield in Scotland, Woods replied: "How about ... good enough."
He also addressed Nick Faldo's recent suggestion that Tiger is struggling mentally and is a mere mortal.
Jason Sobel on that part of the pre-AT&T National press conference, which, not surprisingly, involves the word terse:
“I don't know. I've won four times.,” Woods said Wednesday when asked about the analyst’s comments.
Faldo, who commentates for CBS and Golf Channel, recently told the Daily Mail: “He’s not in a good mental place. It was so easy for him before, he made it look so easy, when it is such a hard sport. But whatever he’s been through, with all his personal problems, has made an impact on his mind – and so much of this sport is all in the mind. Nerve is the bottom line. I know he wants to come back and prove that he can do it.”
When questioned as to whether he feels like he is struggling mentally, Woods only offered a terse, “No.”
Woods is still the favorite at around 7-1 with most of the betting houses with only a few showing his number drifting up.
