Stephen Gallacher: 10-Under On Last 10 In Dubai
/From an unbylined BBC report on Stephen Gallacher's stunning back nine 28 in Dubai, vaulting him into a two shot lead over Rory McIlroy heading into Sunday's finale.
Back nine par is 37.
But then came the joint-lowest back nine to par in European Tour history, with his brilliant 28, including an eagle, propelling him in front of the chasing pack.
Jose Maria Canizares (Swiss Open 1978), Joakim Haeggman (Alfred Dunhill Cup 1997) and Simon Khan (Wales Open 2004) are the players Gallacher joins in the records book.
"It was quite a struggle to start with, especially the first three holes," Gallacher told Sky Sports.
"I hit it stiff on nine and from then on just kept hitting it close, and if I hit it to 30 feet I holed it. I was just trying to make as many birdies as I could and get a lead because I found the last time it's easier when you are leading than chasing."
The European Tour's "by the numbers" notes that Gallacher had 7 threes on his card.
As for Tiger Woods, his driving improved and the putter disappeared during a Saturday 70. Bob Harig reports.
