Augusta Of The Desert Expanding! Scottsdale National Owner Buys Neighboring Development
/The quest by GoDaddy.com founder Bob Parsons to build his own Augusta National in Scottsdale is moving forward with the purchase of a neighboring development by longtime golf developer Lyle Anderson that was approved but not going forward.
You may recall that Parsons offered a once-in-a-lifetime resignation opportunity to his existing Scottsdale National members, then congratulated the holdouts with a great deal.
Now Kristena Hansen reports in a sign-of-the-times move that Anderson's Sierra Reserve project has been purchased after it had received all approvals for lot sales and a boutique hotel. Parsons sounds like he wants to scrap that.
“I am pleased to inform you that today Scottsdale National Golf Club LLC acquired the 223 acres of land located adjacent to our club, known as Sierra Reserve,” Parsons wrote in the email that I obtained. “We will be working closely with the City of Scottsdale to determine the most appropriate use of this additional land.”
The site — which abuts Scottsdale National at 122nd Street and Dynamite Boulevard — was purchased by Anderson in 2006 for about $25 million. The Scottsdale City Council approved plans for Sierra Reserve last summer and home sales there began last month.
I caught up with Anderson this afternoon, who said they hadn’t sold any lots yet.
“If we were going to do something like this, this was about the last minute we could’ve done it,” Anderson said.
