Beckett: "I wonder if I’m the first guy to play the No. 1 golf course in the country and then throw a no-hitter?"

The Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett included this post-game nugget on Dodger Josh Beckett's no-hitter Sunday against the Phillies.

From Plunkett's story:

“I played Pine Valley (Golf Club in southern New Jersey) two days ago. That’s what Paul Maholm and I were talking about. I wonder if I’m the first guy to play the No. 1 golf course in the country and then throw a no-hitter? I probably am.”

He is the first Dodgers pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Hideo Nomo on Sept. 17, 1996 in Colorado. It is the third time an L.A. Dodgers pitcher has no-hit the Phillies. The third of Sandy Koufax's four no-hitters came against the Phillies in 1964. Bill Singer did it in 1970.

My beloved Dodgers played the Mets Thursday, then traveled by train after the game to play the Phillies Friday through Sunday. No doubt with Beckett's sticks on board. Hey, whatever gets the job done!

The highlights from Sunday's no-no, because I know you all want to revel in the 11th no-hitter in L.A. Dodgers history, the 21st in franchise history.
