When one comes to the quality of the bunkers and other hazards we pass into realm of much dispute and argument. Primarily bunkers should be sand bunkers purely, not composed of gravel, stones or dirt. The Silver Lining In Matt Every's DQ...

It's never pretty when a player is disqualified for a rules violation. Especially since the reaction to non-conforming (bent) club issues typically focuses on the peculiarities of the Rules of Golf.

D.J. Piehowski explains what happened to Matt Every at the Sony Open.

“He asked for a second opinion on the bend,” PGA TOUR rules official John Mutch said. “The bend in this club was about 10 inches up from the neck. It was substantial.”

According to the rules of golf, a player can carry a non-conforming club in his bag, but he is subject to a two-shot penalty per stroke, with a maximum of a four-stroke penalty. Because Every played a shot with the club, he is subject to disqualification.

However, this DQ could be a landmark one for the PGA Tour where controversy is generally shied away from. Okay, pretty much buried whenever possible. Yet where did we learn about the DQ and Every's disposal of the wounded weapon?
