Daly Retiring?**
/Thanks to reader Erik for the video and link, I'm sure GC will have a clean version online soon since they are the official network of John Daly.
You know, there's a lot you can say about the man, but it's hard not to admire someone who wants to retire because he feels he's taking away opportunities for more deserving players.
**Jason Sobel on Daly's comments:
The truth is, JD has been "done" for years. After a nine-year absence from the winner's circle, he earned his fifth and final PGA Tour victory in 2004. He followed with a pair of playoff losses one year later, but his game hasn't been up to PGA Tour standards ever since. Daly hasn't finished better than 188th on the money list since 2006 and no longer owns status on the circuit; using sponsors' exemptions, he has missed the cut in each of his first two appearances this season.
Brian Wacker adds this reminder:
Neither Daly nor his agent, Bud Martin of SFX Golf, could be reached for comment.
Whether or not Daly actually retires remains to be seen. However, he doesn't have a PGA TOUR card and his only status this year is as a past champion. He also can receive sponsor's exemptions. Last year, the five-time PGA TOUR winner and two-time major champion made the cut in three of six starts on TOUR, with a tie for 27th his best finish.
