"It's cheating, and I'm appalled Phil has put it in play."
/That's Scott McCarron talking to The San Francisco Chronicle's Ron Kroichick about Phil Mickelson's decision to put a Ping wedge from the 90s into his bag this week.
Rocco's also not a fan:
"I don't like it at all, not one bit," Mediate said. "It's against the spirit of the rule. ... We have to get rid of those clubs, because they're square grooves - what else can you say?"
McCarron was interviewed by Jim Gray during Golf Channel's coverage of the Farmer's Insurance second round. He didn't back off his comments one bit, saying that golf is a "gentleman's game and most of us out here on the PGA Tour don't think it's the right thing to do."
He didn't want to use the cheating word again, but repeated that the players using the Pings are "taking an unfair advantage of the rules" and that it "sure looks bad to me and looks bad to the fans."
McCarron also said it was "Short-sighted" by the PGA Tour and USGA not to have addressed this and it is his belief that they will do something by year's end to address the loophole.
